Yes, children in Minnesota can be charged with assault.
Minnesota Statutes section 609.224 covers Assault in the Fifth Degree. Minnesota Statutes section 609.2242 covers Domestic Assault.
Children are not excluded from this. Under Minnesota Statutes section 260B.007 subdivision 16(c)(1), “a misdemeanor-level violation of [Minnesota Statutes] section 518B.01, 588.20, . . . 609.224 [and] 609.2242 . . .” is not a “juvenile petty offense.”
