§ 103I.525 — Well Contractor's License; Representative's Certification

Plain-Language Summary

To get a well contractor's license, a person must first apply and pay a $100 certification fee, pass an exam, and meet experience requirements set by the commissioner. The company then needs to employ that certified person, post a $25,000 surety bond, and pay a $300 license fee. The license must be renewed on time with all required reports on file, and late renewal costs an extra $75 fee plus the right to work is suspended until everything is current.

Practical Notes
Well contractors must maintain their paperwork obligations — all well construction, sealing, and water sample reports must be filed before the commissioner will approve a license renewal. A contractor who lets their license lapse cannot legally continue drilling or well work. The $25,000 surety bond protects property owners and the state if the contractor performs non-compliant work.
