§ 103I.531 — Limited Well/boring Contractor's License; Representative's Certification

Plain-Language Summary

A limited well/boring contractor's license covers specific narrower activities like sealing wells, installing pumps, dewatering wells, or geothermal heat exchangers — but not full well construction. Obtaining the license requires a certified representative who has passed an exam, plus a surety bond of $10,000 (for sealing, dewatering, or geothermal work) or $2,000 (for pump installation only), and a $100 license fee. Late renewal triggers a $75 fee and a work suspension until the application is complete.

Practical Notes
Contractors who only install pumps or seal wells do not need a full well contractor’s license — the limited license covers those activities at lower cost and with a smaller bond requirement. Three or more limited licenses can be obtained at a group discount of $275. Like the full well contractor license, all required reports must be on file with the commissioner before renewal is approved.
