§ 115A.557 — County Waste Reduction and Recycling Funding

Plain-Language Summary

This law distributes state funding to counties for waste reduction and recycling programs, known as SCORE (Select Committee on Recycling and the Environment) grants. Money is distributed based on population, with a minimum of $55,000 per county. Counties must use the funds for recycling, waste reduction, composting, market development, and public education.

Practical Notes
Counties must report by April 1 each year on how they spent the money and what recycling gains they achieved. Metro counties must spend at least 50% of any funding increase over their 2014 level on composting activities. Counties that fail to comply with reporting or spending requirements can have their funding withheld.
