§ 120A.21 — Enrollment of a Student in Foster Care

Governs the enrollment and attendance of students living in one school district who wish to attend school in another district, including open enrollment procedures.
120A.21 ENROLLMENT OF A STUDENT IN FOSTER CARE.
A student placed in foster care must remain enrolled in the student’s prior school unless it is determined that remaining enrolled in the prior school is not in the student’s best interests. If the student does not remain enrolled in the prior school, the student must be enrolled in a new school within seven school days.

Practical Notes
Minnesotas open enrollment law allows families to apply to attend schools outside their resident district. Applications are generally due by January 15 for the following school year.
