§ 120B.02 — Educational Expectations and Graduation Requirements for Minnesota's Students

Plain-Language Summary

This section sets the overall expectations for what Minnesota students must learn and do to graduate from high school. It says the state will create rigorous academic standards, but school districts get to decide how to teach them. Students must complete required credits and show they understand the standards to earn a diploma.

Practical Notes
School districts can set graduation requirements that are higher than the state minimums, but not lower. Students ages 19 to 21 who have not yet graduated may be able to enroll in an adult high school diploma program. Parents should check with their local school district to learn about any additional local graduation requirements beyond the state standards.
