§ 120B.305 — Assessment Reporting Requirements

Plain-Language Summary

This section governs how Minnesota state assessment results must be reported. Reports must provide timely, useful, and understandable information on the performance of individual students, schools, districts, and the state as a whole. Reporting must also comply with the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act's requirements. The section establishes requirements for how assessment data is communicated to parents, educators, policymakers, and the public.

Practical Notes
Assessment results released under this section are nonpublic data until the commissioner officially releases them publicly. Parents are entitled to receive their child’s assessment results in a useful, understandable format — schools cannot simply report raw scores without context. Districts must provide parents with longitudinal data showing their child’s performance over time, not just a single year’s results. This section works together with sections 120B.35 and 120B.36 for the full accountability reporting framework.
