§ 125B.26 — Telecommunications/internet Access Equity Aid

Plain-Language Summary

Minnesota provides telecommunications and internet access equity aid to help school districts, charter schools, and intermediate school districts pay for internet and data line costs. Districts submit their actual telecom costs each year and receive reimbursement based on a formula. Eligible costs include recurring internet access fees, data line costs, regional network costs, and installation fees for new lines. Equipment purchases and internal staffing costs are not reimbursable.

Practical Notes
School districts and charter schools in Minnesota can apply for state reimbursement of their internet and telecommunications costs through this program. Eligible costs are those related to actual service fees and line costs, not hardware or staff. Submit your costs to the Minnesota Department of Education by August 15 of each year. The aid helps smaller and rural districts afford reliable internet connectivity.
