Anyone who willfully violates the Data Practices Act is guilty of a misdemeanor. Government employees who willfully violate the law can be suspended without pay or fired.

Practical Notes
This law has teeth. If a government employee knowingly violates your data rights – such as sharing your private data without authorization or refusing to follow the law – they face criminal charges (misdemeanor) and can lose their job.
