§ 14.53 — Costs Assessed

The chief administrative law judge assesses agencies for the actual cost of providing administrative law judges and other hearing services. These costs include salaries, travel, equipment, and overhead.

14.53 COSTS ASSESSED.

Except as otherwise specifically provided by statute, the chief administrative law judge, in consultation with the commissioner of management and budget, shall assess agencies the cost of services rendered to them. All agencies shall include in their budgets provisions for such assessments.

Practical Notes

The costs of administrative hearings are paid by the agencies that use them, not by the parties in the case. Each agency must budget for these costs.
