§ 142G.19 — Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

Plain-Language Summary

This section explains how SNAP (food stamp) benefits work with MFIP. If you get emergency SNAP benefits, you cannot also get the MFIP food portion that month. Household members who are not in the MFIP unit but share meals can get a separate SNAP benefit.

Practical Notes
The food portion of your MFIP payment is not counted as income for other programs that do not count SNAP benefits. If people in your home eat with you but are not part of your MFIP case, they may still qualify for separate food assistance through SNAP.
