§ 142G.32 — Amount of Assistance Payment

Plain-Language Summary

Your MFIP payment equals the difference between the standard of need for your family size and your countable income. MFIP families also receive a monthly housing assistance grant of $110, adjusted each year for inflation. If you apply mid-month, your first payment is prorated from your application date.

Practical Notes
The housing assistance grant is added on top of your regular MFIP benefit, but families in HUD-subsidized housing or child-only cases do not receive it. Any overpayments will be deducted from future payments. Your first month’s payment is calculated based on when you applied, not the full month.
