§ 142G.78 — County of Financial Responsibility Policies

Plain-Language Summary

This section determines which county is financially responsible for an MFIP case. Generally, it is the county where the child or pregnant woman lives when the application is signed. When a family moves to a new county, financial responsibility transfers after two full months in the new county.

Practical Notes
If you move to a different county, your old county remains responsible for your case for two full months. After that, your new county takes over. If the wrong county pays your benefits due to an error, that county can be charged for the incorrect payments.
