§ 147.131 — Physician Cooperation

Plain-Language Summary

A physician under investigation by the Board of Medical Practice must fully cooperate. This means answering all questions promptly and providing copies of patient medical records when requested. If the board does not have patient consent, the physician must remove identifying patient information before sharing the records.

Practical Notes
Failure to cooperate with a board investigation is itself grounds for discipline under section 147.091. The board pays for copies of records it requests. Records provided to the board are maintained as investigative data under the state data practices act, which means they remain confidential.
