§ 148.75 — Disciplinary Action

Plain-Language Summary

The Board of Physical Therapy may take disciplinary action against an applicant or licensed physical therapist or physical therapist assistant for grounds such as violating a board statute, rule, or order; being unable to practice safely due to illness or substance use; certain criminal convictions involving dishonesty, fraud, or narcotics; obtaining a license by fraud; unprofessional conduct; gross negligence; and failing to cooperate with a board investigation. Available actions include denying, suspending, or revoking the license, imposing practice limitations or conditions, ordering unremunerated service, censure or reprimand, and a civil penalty of up to $10,000 for each separate violation. A license is automatically suspended if a court appoints a guardian for the licensee or commits the licensee under chapter 253B, and stays suspended until the person is restored to capacity.

Practical Notes
If a physical therapist engages in misconduct, the board can take action against their license. You can file a complaint with the board.
