§ 164.10 — Expenditures on Cartway

Plain-Language Summary

This section allows town boards to spend public road funds on cartways if they decide it serves the public interest. If the town board refuses to fund a cartway, ten taxpayers can petition to put the question to voters at the annual town meeting.

Practical Notes
Town boards are not required to spend public money on cartways, but they have the option. If the board refuses, taxpayers can force a vote at the annual town meeting. If a majority of voters approve, the town board must allocate road and bridge funds to the cartway.
