2025 Session Last amended: 1991 session

§ 169.32 — Stopping, Standing, and Parking

Plain-Language Summary

Outside of cities and towns, you must not park on the main part of the highway if you can pull off to the side. You must leave at least 20 feet of road clear for other traffic to pass. This does not apply to disabled vehicles or school buses picking up children.

Practical Notes
On rural highways, always pull completely off the road when stopping. If your vehicle breaks down on the road and you cannot move it, you are not in violation, but you should make it visible to other drivers.
