§ 176.875 — Report of Illness

Plain-Language Summary

This section sets the reporting process when a police officer contracts tuberculosis through work contact with an afflicted person. The head of the state, county, or city police department must report the illness to the Workers' Compensation Division and send copies to the appropriate body (the Department of Human Services commissioner for a state officer, the county board for a county officer, or the city governing body for a municipal officer). The Department of Labor and Industry commissioner then mails claim forms to the department and sets the claim for hearing in the same manner as other public employees' workers' compensation claims.

Practical Notes
If you are a police officer who contracted tuberculosis through work contact with an afflicted person, your department head must report it to the Workers’ Compensation Division and notify the appropriate state, county, or city body. You will then receive forms to claim medical, sanitarium, and compensation benefits, and your claim is heard and decided like other public employees’ workers’ comp claims.
