§ 181.09 — Recovery of Wages, Costs

Plain-Language Summary

This section lets employees of a public service corporation that neglects or refuses to pay their wages (as required under section 181.08) recover those wages through a court action, without having to make any further demand first. If the employee prevails, the court adds a fixed $10 in costs to the judgment, in addition to any other disbursements allowed by law.

Practical Notes
This is a civil collection remedy that applies specifically when a public service corporation has failed to pay wages owed under section 181.08, and it allows a worker to sue for the unpaid wages directly. The $10 cost figure is set by statute and is added to the judgment on top of other recoverable costs. Anyone pursuing unpaid wages should read this together with section 181.08, which governs when and how those wages are due.
