§ 201.021 — Permanent Registration System

Plain-Language Summary

This section creates a permanent, statewide computerized voter registration system. Each county auditor serves as the chief registrar of voters in their county. The Secretary of State maintains the central database, which contains the name and information of every registered voter in the state.

Practical Notes
This statewide database assigns a unique identifier to each voter and is the official list of all registered voters in Minnesota. County auditors maintain local records, but the Secretary of State oversees the centralized system.
