§ 201.195 — Challenges

Plain-Language Summary

This section allows any registered voter to challenge the eligibility of another voter in the same county. The challenger must file a petition with the county auditor at least 45 days before the election and provide evidence supporting the challenge.

Practical Notes
Voter challenges require personal knowledge and clear evidence. Simply having mail returned as undeliverable or a voter being a student is not enough to challenge someone’s registration. The challenged voter has the right to a hearing and can appeal to the Secretary of State if the challenge is upheld.
