2025 Session Last amended: 2023 session

§ 204B.071 — Petitions; Rules of Secretary of State

Plain-Language Summary

The secretary of state must create rules for how election petitions are circulated, signed, filed, and checked. The secretary must also provide sample petition forms. A petition cannot be rejected just because the paper is smaller than legal size.

Practical Notes
This protects people circulating petitions from having their work thrown out over paper size technicalities. The secretary of state’s office provides sample forms that anyone can use as a guide when creating their own petitions.
