§ 204B.12 — Withdrawal of Candidates

Plain-Language Summary

A candidate may withdraw from the primary by filing a written request with the filing officer by the end of the filing period. After the primary, a candidate who won the nomination may withdraw up to four days after the state canvassing board certifies the primary results.

Practical Notes
Withdrawal deadlines are strict. Missing the deadline means the candidate’s name stays on the ballot. Filing fees are not refunded when a candidate withdraws. After withdrawing, the vacancy in nomination procedures apply.
