§ 204B.19 — Election Judges; Qualifications

Plain-Language Summary

To serve as an election judge in Minnesota, a person must be eligible to vote, able to read, write, and speak English, and not be a candidate on the ballot. Election judges must not be closely related to any candidate on the ballot at their precinct. In partisan elections, judges from different major parties must serve together.

Practical Notes
Election judges are the volunteers and appointed workers who run polling places on election day. They check in voters, hand out ballots, and help count votes. If you are interested in serving, contact your county auditor or city clerk to get on the list.
