§ 204B.33 — Notice of Filing

Plain-Language Summary

At least 16 weeks before the state primary, the secretary of state notifies county auditors about which offices will be on the ballot. County auditors then notify municipal clerks. The county auditor must publish and post a notice of the filing period at least one week before filing begins.

Practical Notes
These notice requirements ensure that potential candidates and the public know when and where to file for office. If you are thinking about running for office, watch for the notice of filing in your local newspaper and at your county auditor’s office.
