§ 204B.37 — Back of Ballot
Plain-Language Summary
The back of every ballot must have the words 'Official Ballot' printed on it, along with the election date and lines for at least two election judges to initial. These words must be visible when the ballot is folded for deposit in the ballot box.
204B.37 BACK OF BALLOT.
On the back of all ballots shall be printed the words “Official Ballot”, the date of the election and lines for the initials of at least two election judges. The words shall be printed so that they will be visible when the ballot is properly folded for deposit in the ballot box.

Practical Notes
The initials of election judges on the back of the ballot are a security feature that helps verify the ballot is genuine. Ballots without proper initials may be challenged during counting.
