§ 206.88 — Partial Recounts on Electronic Voting Systems

Plain-Language Summary

The Secretary of State may order a recount of votes in one or more precincts that used an electronic voting system to check the accuracy of the count. The recount results are reported to the canvassing board, and the deadline for election contests starts when the recount is certified.

Practical Notes
This gives the Secretary of State the power to spot-check electronic vote counts. If a recount changes the result, the timeline for filing an election contest resets. This is separate from the mandatory postelection review in section 206.89.
