§ 208.03 — Nomination of Presidential Electors and Alternates

Plain-Language Summary

Major political parties nominate presidential electors and alternates through their delegate conventions. The party chair must certify the names of electors, alternate electors, and the presidential and vice presidential candidates to the secretary of state at least 71 days before the general election.

Practical Notes
The nomination process happens within each political party. Presidential candidates cannot also be candidates for any other office in Minnesota at the same election. The 71-day deadline ensures there is time to prepare ballots.
