§ 214.075 — Health-related Licensing Boards; Criminal Background Checks

Plain-Language Summary

Health licensing boards must require criminal background checks, including fingerprinting, for people applying for a new license, seeking reinstatement after more than a year, or applying for interstate compact eligibility. Boards can also require background checks during investigations. Applicants who refuse the background check cannot get a license.

Practical Notes
If you are applying for a health-related professional license in Minnesota, you will need to submit fingerprints and pay for state and federal criminal background checks. Background check results are valid for one year. If you believe the results are inaccurate, you have 30 days to challenge them and up to 180 days to correct the record.
