§ 214.101 — Child Support; Suspension of License

Plain-Language Summary

A licensing board must suspend the license of anyone who falls behind on child support or maintenance payments when ordered to do so by a court or public authority. The board cannot reissue, reinstate, or renew the license until it gets confirmation the person is current on payments or following a payment plan. This applies to support orders from any U.S. state or territory.

Practical Notes
If you owe back child support or maintenance, your professional license can be suspended. To get it back, you must either pay off the arrears or enter into a written payment plan and get confirmation from the court or enforcement agency. This applies to all occupational licenses issued by state agencies.
