§ 241.016 — Annual Performance Report Required

Plain-Language Summary

The Department of Corrections must send a yearly performance report to the legislature by January 15. The report must include the department's goals, the daily cost of housing inmates, prison statistics, and information about mental health programs. The department must also track and report how often released offenders commit new crimes.

Practical Notes
This report is a key source of public information about how well Minnesota’s prisons and correctional programs are working. It includes recidivism data broken down by program type, which can be useful for understanding the effectiveness of treatment and education programs. The report also tracks extended jurisdiction juvenile cases.
