§ 241.20 — Inmates to Do Conservation Work

Plain-Language Summary

The commissioner of corrections can use selected inmates for conservation work such as reforestation, soil erosion control, and land improvement on state-controlled land. Inmates can also work on land belonging to other state departments or agencies if there is an agreement in place.

Practical Notes
This law allows the use of inmate labor for environmental and conservation projects when the commissioner believes it helps with rehabilitation. The work can take place on any state-controlled land, not just correctional facility grounds, as long as there is an agreement with the managing agency.
