§ 244.47 — Victim Input

Plain-Language Summary

When an inmate is eligible for earned incentive release credits for a serious crime, the commissioner must try to notify the victim. Victims can share concerns about the inmate's possible early release, raise safety issues, and ask for safety measures to be added as conditions of imprisonment or release. The commissioner must consider all victim input when setting release conditions.

Practical Notes
This applies to crimes listed in section 609.02, subdivision 16 (crimes of violence). The commissioner must provide victims with contact information for the local victim services agency in the area where the inmate will be released. Victim input is considered but is not binding on the commissioner’s final decision.
