§ 256B.057 — Eligibility Requirements for Special Categories

Plain-Language Summary

Sets eligibility rules for special groups, including pregnant women (up to 278% of federal poverty level), infants under two (up to 283% of poverty), working people with disabilities, and elderly or disabled people who qualify for Medicare cost-sharing help (QMB/SLMB programs).

Practical Notes
Pregnant women and infants have some of the most generous income limits in the Medical Assistance program. A pregnant woman earning up to about 278% of the federal poverty level qualifies. An infant born to a mother on Medical Assistance stays covered until their first birthday without needing a new application. The Medicare Savings Programs (QMB, SLMB, QI) help people on Medicare by paying their premiums, deductibles, and copays. Working adults with disabilities can earn more and still keep Medical Assistance coverage.
