§ 256I.06 — Payment Methods

Plain-Language Summary

This section explains how housing support payments are made. Payments go directly to the housing provider as a voucher or vendor payment, not to the individual. The county must determine eligibility within 30 days for aged or blind applicants, or 60 days for people with disabilities. Eligibility must be reviewed at least once a year, and recipients must report changes in their situation.

Practical Notes
Housing support payments are made on your behalf directly to the housing provider – you do not receive the money yourself. You must provide information to verify your eligibility, and if you refuse without good cause, your benefits can be denied or terminated. If the county overpays due to its own error, you generally are not responsible for paying it back unless the amount was so large you should have known it was a mistake.
