§ 256R.03 — Conditions for Funding

Plain-Language Summary

Nursing facilities must meet several conditions to receive Medical Assistance payments. They must be certified for Medicaid, have a provider agreement with the state, and follow all state and federal rules. Facilities that lose their admission privileges or leave the program may lose their funding.

Practical Notes
A nursing facility that has its admissions suspended cannot bill for new residents during the suspension. If a facility leaves the Medicaid program, payments may continue temporarily while current residents are relocated. Provider contracts last up to four years, and either side can end the contract with 90 days’ written notice.
