§ 259.24 — Consents

Plain-Language Summary

Specifies whose consent is required for an adoption, when consent may be executed (no sooner than 72 hours after birth), and establishes a ten-working-day window during which a parent may withdraw consent for any reason.

Practical Notes
Birth parents have important rights under this section. Consent cannot be signed until at least 72 hours after birth. After signing, a parent has ten working days to withdraw consent for any reason. After that window closes, consent becomes irrevocable unless it was obtained by fraud. Children over 14 must also consent to their own adoption.
