§ 268A.06 — Community Rehabilitation Providers

Plain-Language Summary

This section allows cities, towns, counties, and nonprofit organizations to apply to the commissioner for help establishing or operating extended employment programs for people with disabilities. Local governments can use general fund money, levy taxes, and accept gifts or grants to fund these programs. Any matching funds available from state or federal sources may also be used.

Practical Notes
This section is the gateway for local governments and nonprofits to participate in the extended employment program. Subdivision 3 was repealed in 2001. Organizations interested in establishing an extended employment program should contact the Department of Employment and Economic Development and use the commissioner’s prescribed application forms. Tax levies by local governments provide a stable funding base for these programs.
