§ 275.72 — Levy Limit Adjustments for Consolidation and Annexation

Plain-Language Summary

This section adjusts levy limits when cities or counties consolidate, merge, or annex territory. The new combined entity gets a levy limit based on the highest tax rate among the merging units applied to the combined tax base.

Practical Notes
If your city merges with another or annexes new territory, the levy limits are recalculated. The merged entity uses the highest tax rate from any of the original units, which can result in higher levy limits for the combined government.
