§ 276.09 — Settlement Between Auditor and Treasurer

Plain-Language Summary

This law sets the timing for the county treasurer to settle accounts with the county auditor. The settlement must happen by May 20 or 26 days after property tax statements were mailed, whichever is later. At settlement, the treasurer accounts for all taxes collected and reports to the auditor, who then reports to the state auditor within 30 days.

Practical Notes
This mid-year settlement is an internal government accounting procedure that triggers the distribution of tax funds to schools, cities, townships, and other local taxing authorities. This settlement date is also the reference point for distributions and payments to local taxing districts described in related sections.
