§ 299A.33 — Drug Abuse Resistance Education (dare) Program

Plain-Language Summary

This law creates the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program in Minnesota. The commissioner gives grants to law enforcement agencies and school districts so peace officers can be trained to teach drug abuse prevention in schools. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension develops the training curriculum.

Practical Notes
Police departments and sheriff’s offices can apply for grants to cover DARE training costs and travel expenses. The training is voluntary for local agencies. If multiple applicants want to serve the same school district, they must submit a coordination plan. Grant recipients may be required to report on how the money was used.
