§ 299A.45 — Education Benefit

Plain-Language Summary

Surviving spouses and dependent children of public safety officers killed in the line of duty can receive education benefits to attend Minnesota colleges and universities. The benefit covers tuition and mandatory fees for up to eight semesters. Both undergraduate and graduate programs are eligible.

Practical Notes
Dependent children must be under 23 at the start of the academic year. Military veterans who are dependent children can qualify up to age 30. The education benefit does not reduce eligibility for other state financial aid. Students who withdraw for military service or major illness can get an extra semester of eligibility.
