§ 299A.708 — Minnesota Victims of Crime Account

Plain-Language Summary

The Minnesota victims of crime account funds grants to organizations that serve crime victims, including victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. Grants pay for direct client help, housing support, culturally responsive programs, and competitive staff wages. Starting in fiscal year 2028, the state will transfer about $879,000 per year into this account.

Practical Notes
Up to ten percent of the money can be used for grant administration. Unspent money carries over and does not expire. The commissioner reports annually on how much money is in the account and where it comes from. This account was created in 2025 to provide a stable state funding source for crime victim services.
