2025 Session Last amended: 2012 session

§ 332.35 — Prior Conviction or Judgment as Disqualification

Plain-Language Summary

Bars individuals convicted of fraud, felonies, or financial crimes within the past five years from being licensed or registered as collection agents. Also disqualifies anyone with a revoked law license or a civil judgment for failing to account for client funds.

Practical Notes
These disqualification rules exist to protect consumers from unscrupulous collectors. If you suspect a collector has a disqualifying criminal history or prior judgment, you can file a complaint with the Minnesota Department of Commerce, which screens applicants during the licensing process.
