§ 354A.092 — Sabbatical Leave

Plain-Language Summary

Teachers in the St. Paul Teachers Retirement Fund Association who take a sabbatical leave can earn up to three years of retirement service credit during any ten-year period. The teacher must pay the employee contribution, and the school district must pay the employer contribution, both based on the teacher's salary from the year before the leave.

Practical Notes
If you take a sabbatical, you can protect your retirement benefits by continuing to pay into the fund. Your contributions must be made by June 30 of the year after the sabbatical ends. If you pay less than the full amount, your service credit will be reduced proportionally.
