§ 354A.0961 — Service Credit Purchase for Teaching Service in Other States

Plain-Language Summary

Teachers with at least three years of service credit in the St. Paul Teachers Retirement Fund Association can purchase up to five years of service credit for time spent teaching in public or charter schools in other states. The teacher must apply, provide documentation of the out-of-state teaching, and forfeit any pension rights from that other state.

Practical Notes
This allows St. Paul teachers who taught in other states to consolidate their service credit into one retirement fund. You must apply to the executive director and provide proof of your out-of-state teaching. Payment must be made before you terminate teaching or within one year of approval, whichever comes first.
