§ 356.25 — Local Governmental Pension Fund Prohibitions; Exclusions

Plain-Language Summary

This section prohibits cities, counties, and other local governments from creating new local pension plans paid for with public funds. The only exceptions are supplemental pension or deferred compensation plans allowed under section 356.24 and firefighter relief associations under chapter 424A.

Practical Notes
Local governments cannot set up their own separate pension systems for employees. All public employees must participate in the statewide pension plans. This rule ensures consistency and prevents the creation of underfunded local pension plans.
