§ 356.311 — Coverage by More Than One Plan

Plain-Language Summary

This section ensures that people who have been members of two or more public retirement plans can receive an annuity from each plan when they retire, as long as their combined service meets the longest vesting requirement among the plans. Each plan pays based only on the service earned in that plan.

Practical Notes
If you worked in more than one public retirement plan but did not meet the vesting requirement in each individual plan, your combined service may still qualify you. You must not have taken a refund from any plan. If you did take a refund, you can repay it to restore your eligibility.
