§ 394.32 — Cooperation With Municipalities

Plain-Language Summary

This section allows municipalities to contract with their county for planning and zoning services. A city can ask the county to create a comprehensive plan for it, adopt official controls for the city's area, or serve as the city's planning agency. The city can take back its planning authority at any time.

Practical Notes
This is useful for smaller cities that lack the resources to run their own planning departments. The county enforces the controls unless the county and city agree otherwise. A municipality can take over its own planning and zoning at any time by resolution of its governing body.
