§ 394.34 — Interim Zoning

Plain-Language Summary

This section allows counties to adopt temporary zoning rules as an emergency measure while they study, hold hearings on, or develop a comprehensive plan or official controls. Interim zoning is limited to one year and can be renewed for one additional year.

Practical Notes
Interim zoning is a tool counties can use to prevent undesirable development while they are working on permanent zoning rules. It can also be used when new territory is annexed to a municipality that does not yet have zoning in place. The total duration cannot exceed two years.
